Our new specialty adventure, Dories and Stories, is our classic hybrid trip (oar boats and a paddle raft) staffed with a well-versed story telling crew. In addition to the oar and paddle rafts, a dory boat will also be added to the trip to enrich your overall Colorado River experience.
The stories of the Grand Canyon are outrageous, from the fated Hyde honeymoon to John Wesley Powell's maiden voyage. This trip has a trip historian: Mr. Brad Dimock. Brad Dimock has spent thirty years as a guide and leader in Grand Canyon and rivers around the world. His college and graduate work centered on natural history and outdoor leadership, which results into
superlative interpretation skills on the river. Nowadays he splits his time between the life of a writer of Grand Canyon history (www.fretwater.com), and a teacher/trainer both on-river and off. Dimock's style shies away from pedantic relating of dry facts--he views every subject as another avenue for his greatest talent: storytelling. Stories are told on all of our trips but the Dories & Stories is designed to entertain you with the best!
In addition to an all-star crew, you have the opportunity to ride in dory boat. Often consider the "classic" way to run the river, a dory is a rigid boat made of wood, fiberglass or aluminum, and gives an exciting, responsive ride, reacting to riffles and rapids alike. First introduced to Grand Canyon by conservationist Martin Litton in the 1960s, dory boats continue to win devotees. Their beautiful lines and colors also make for great photographs. Between the oar boat, paddle raft and the dory, there will be many boat experiences.
The trip is available as a 14-day full Canyon, a 6-day upper Canyon, and a 9-day lower Canyon trip.
