How to pack your dry bag
Commonly referred to as the "blue bag"
Arizona Raft Adventures, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Arizona, river rafting trips

Step 1

Open your dry bag. When empty, the dry bag is roughly 18 inches in diameter and stands about 2.5 feet high. Don't be deceived by the first glance! You do not have this much room for gear. You do, however, have enough room to bring what you need. But remember...you have to haul your dry bags twice a day so try not to overpack. Also, the more gear you bring makes it more difficult to "mole" around inside your bag to find what you are looking for.

Step 2

Stuff your gear into the dry bag. This bag is for the items that you do NOT need access to during the day. To see a demonstration of the waterproof bag for the items you need access to during the day, click here.

Step 3

It is important to push your gear into all of the open space inside your bag. Do not leave any pockets of air as this will make your bag less waterproof. For added waterproof protection for items such as a camera or book, pack in a zip lock baggie.

Step 4

When your gear is packed in the bag, close the top of the bag.

Step 5

Using your knee, compress all of the air out of your bag. We do not recommend bringing breakable items.

Step 6

You should notice an air seal that forms inside the bag.

Step 7

Roll the bag from the top as far down as you can. Try to get at least 4 good rolls. Keep the two black webbing straps that hang near the opening of the bag out while you roll the bag closed.

Step 8

While compressing the dry bag, feed the webbing strap through the cam buckle located about 6 inches from the bottom of the bag (one strap per buckle).

Step 9

Pull the webbing through the cam buckle as far and tight as you can while still compressing the air out of your bag as much as possible.

Step 10

If you have more than a few inches of webbing left, tie it up so it is not hanging loose.

Step 11

You are packed and ready to go! Note the number on the side of your dry bag. This number will help you identify your dry bag while you are on your trip.
